Nothing I say about Bitty-Bat will do this show justice. You have to see Emily Jeffers transform into the clown dressed as a bat (or is it a bat dressed as a clown?) with your own eyes to fully grasp the inventiveness behind this art.
The show's narrator explains the "who, what" on stage, in a tone reminiscent of British animal documentaries. Emily masterfully displays the "where, when, how" leaving audiences to discover the "why." The brilliance of Bitty-Bat is rooted in this defined relationship of roles. Not many shows can manage this division even remotely well, yet Bitty-Bat manages it effortlessly from start to finish.
Moments of true comedic genius are almost a constant. Time flies by with each moment of laughter coming on just as you've settled down from the last. This doesn’t feel like an hour-long show. I could easily watch two or three hours of Bitty and still want more. Many other viewers would also agree. We need more bat!
I've been fortunate enough to see around ten different iterations of Bitty-Bat, and each time there's some new bit Emily puts in, or a twist that I hadn't seen before, making a Bitty-Bat show even more special.
Audiences will love the antics on stage, and I think Emily enjoys them too. If flops occur, not every show but some, she admits what has happened and finds a way to move on. Watching someone who has a deep passion for Clown perform their art is simply beautiful. Thank you Emily for continuing to grace audiences with your weird, wonderful, and hilarious creation.
Bitty-Bat is deserving of five giant stalagmites. This is a must-see for anyone who enjoys Clown, comedy, the theatre, or just general happiness.
