One way to describe Victoria Watson Sepejak’s Angel, Baby is as an innocent interpretation of vulgar Bouffon. Watson Sepejak’s ability to captivate their audience in silly games will leave you thinking long after the show has come to its conclusion. It’s clear Victoria enjoys playing these games with the audience, establishing early on their sense of play with a child’s sense of wonder.
But the show isn’t only for children. If anything, this is a show for adults who are in some way looking to re-visit their high school memories through a highlight reel on stage. Victoria’s attire suggests the show is at a freshman dance, situated within the context of a young teenager doing their best to explore mature subjects through still innocent eyes.
That’s something wonderful about the show. Throughout you’re welcomed by Watson Sepejak’s to explore topics such as love, puberty, friendship, all while feeling comfortable, loved, and of course being able to laugh at the clown’s innocence to these adult themes while on stage. Victoria’s true charm is their capable hands at leading an audience through these topics and goes above and beyond to ensure each audience member feels safe (even when boundaries of comfort are pushed towards their limits).
Audiences will laugh at the performance but also at themselves throughout the 60 minute runtime. Overall, Angel, Baby is a cute, wholesome experience, suitable for anyone with the urge to we live their preteen innocence. Angel, Baby is truly worthy of five angelic halos.
